man machine
National Museum of Science and Technology (Tekniska Museet), 10-19 Feb. 2006
contact: Ingvar Sjöberg | related: man machine

In the autumn of 2005 Interactive Institute organised a workshop where five artists collaborated with engineers from the institute. The project was an experiment with short processes where artists and engineers collaborated on the boundary between art and technology.

The project theme was man and machine and the result of eight very intensive days will now be presented in an exhibition at the National Museum of Science and Technology (Tekniska Museet). We will here show five installations by five artists: Sachiko Hayashi, Tina Finnäs, Johan Thurfjell, Christine Ödlund och Drott Johan Löfgren. Sachiko Hayashi has chosen to work with snow. In her piece Flurry the audience can interact with animated snow. Tina Finnäs allows the audience to step into the spotlight to the tones of Frank Sinatra. Johan Thurfjell has worked with dreams but never let us get a grip of them. In Christine Ödlunds installation we walk inside a projected microscopic landscape and Drott Johan Löfgren lets a rumble fish draw an automatic drawing.

The exhibition is curated by Björn Norberg. Participating engineers: Olof Bendt, Fredrik Petersson, Alex Bustamante och Loove Broms. From Interactive Institute has also Ingvar Sjöberg, Magnus Jonsson, Cecilia Narström och My Lindh participated.

Dendroid at Today in Paradise
Röda Sten, Gothenburg, Sweden, 25 Mar. 05 - 17 Apr. 05
contact: Arijana Kajfes | related: occular witness

Arijana Kajfes and Pablo Miranda participate in the exhibition Today in Paradise - Genetics & Art at Röda Sten, Gothenburg. Dendroid is an electrochemical computing device based on the research by cybernetician Gordon Pask during the end of the 1950s. Dendritic computation is based on the functional and morphological analogies between the metallic threads that form in electrolytic processes and the growth of dendrites in neurons.

The piece has partly been developed in the Occular Witness project.

Alberto Frigo at Konstfack and NonTVTV
Konstfack, Stockholm, 14 Feb - 14 Mar 2005
contact: | related: Autobiographical memory system

In his ongoing project Autobiographical Memory System, artist Alberto Frigo is documenting his interaction with everyday objects. Following certain rules, he uses a small digital camera to take a picture which is then labeled and stored in a database. Now he has printed out a selection of the over 30000 images to arrange them physically. This part of the process takes place at Konstfack in Stockholm between 14 Feb and 14 Mar 2005. The process can be followed online at www.splintermind.com. There is also a live presentation at Konstfack, Friday 25 Feb 17-19 pm.
